GRP FRP Manhole Covers — EN-124 Certified Composite Covers

GRP and FRP Manhole Covers Are the Same Product — One Composite, Two Names

In Indian tenders, municipal corporation drawings and CPWD specifications, you will see both terms: GRP manhole cover (Glass Reinforced Plastic) and FRP manhole cover (Fiber Reinforced Plastic). Both describe the same material — glass fibre reinforcement locked inside a thermoset resin matrix, moulded under heat and pressure into a one-piece cover with no scrap value. Rawji Exports manufactures both designations on the same EN-124 tested production line at our Bhiwandi plant, so whichever wording your tender uses, the product, the load certificate and the warranty are identical.

Composite covers were adopted across Indian cities for one decisive reason: cast iron theft. A composite GRP cover has zero scrap resale value, weighs about 80% less, never rusts into the frame, and passes the same EN-124 A15–D400 load classes that ductile iron does. For utility companies, smart cities, township developers and EPC contractors, GRP/FRP covers remove the replacement cycle that cast iron forces every few years.

GRP FRP Manhole Cover Specifications

Load classes, sizes and material properties conforming to EN-124 composite cover standards.

Material GRP / FRP composite — glass fibre reinforcement in thermoset resin, one-piece moulded
Load Classes (EN-124) A15 (1.5t pedestrian), B125 (12.5t car parks), C250 (25t roads), D400 (40t highways)
Standard Sizes 300x300, 450x450, 450x600, 600x600, 450x900, 900x900 mm plus circular covers; custom clear openings on request
Weight vs Cast Iron Approximately 80% lighter — one worker can lift and seat a composite cover without tools
Corrosion Behaviour Non-rusting, non-conductive, immune to sewage gas, road salt and monsoon exposure
Theft Resistance Zero scrap value composite — no theft incentive; optional locking arrangements
Indicative Ex-Works Price ₹1,500–2,200 (A15 small) up to ₹4,800–7,500 (D400 heavy) per cover; see the full GRP manhole cover price list
Applications Municipal sewerage and storm water, water works, telecom and electric utility ducts, townships, smart city projects, gas pipelines

EN-124 Load Class Selection Table

Choose the correct class before ordering — undertested covers fail, overtested covers waste budget.

EN-124 Class Test Load Typical Installation
A15 1.5 tonnes Pedestrian footpaths, gardens, cycle tracks, landscaped areas
B125 12.5 tonnes Car parks, residential driveways, slow-moving vehicle zones
C250 25 tonnes Urban roads, kerbside lanes, bus bays, parking lanes
D400 40 tonnes Highways, arterial roads, heavy traffic corridors, container yards

Frequently Asked Questions

Detailed technical and commercial answers from our composite product engineering team.

Yes. GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) and FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) refer to the same composite material — glass fibres bound in a thermoset resin matrix. In India both names are used interchangeably in tender documents; a GRP manhole cover and an FRP manhole cover from Rawji Exports are identical products manufactured on the same EN-124 tested line.

A15 (1.5 ton) for pedestrian footpaths and gardens, B125 (12.5 ton) for car parks and slow-moving vehicles, C250 (25 ton) for roads and parking lanes, and D400 (40 ton) for highways and heavy traffic. Municipal and CPWD tenders in India commonly specify C250 or D400.

Cast iron covers are stolen for scrap value. GRP composite has zero scrap resale value, which removes the theft incentive completely — the reason municipal corporations across India have switched to composite covers.

Standard square and rectangular sizes from 300x300mm up to 900x900mm (300x300, 450x450, 450x600, 600x600, 450x900, 900x900), plus circular covers. Custom clear openings are manufactured on request.

Approximately 80% lighter. A D400-class composite cover that one worker can lift would require a 60+ kg cast iron equivalent needing two workers and lifting tools.
